Calor Gas, a leading supplier of liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in Ireland has been delivering energy solutions for over 75 years. Calor, in conjunction with their equipment partners Mercury Fuel Systems Ltd. are delighted to return as Mondello Truck Show sponsors this year. As road haulage is of critical importance for Ireland’s export-led economy, greater energy and cost efficiencies are increasingly required. Calor has recognised this and, as a result, transport energy has become an increasingly important part of their business.

As main event sponsor of this year’s Mondello Truck Show, in association with Mercury Fuel Systems Ltd, Calor will be showcasing one of the latest developments in fleet technology to help reduce costs and carbon footprint for the haulage and transport sector, the Calor LPG/ diesel dual-fuel system.

The LPG/Diesel dual-fuel system works by replacing up to 30% of the more expensive and carbon-intensive primary fuel (diesel) with the less expensive and lower carbon-content secondary fuel, LPG. This dual-fuel technology has already delivered proven, significant economic and environmental benefits to many businesses. Pascal Manley, Fleet Manager of Linwoods, has converted some of the larger units in their fleet to run on the dual fuel system. Commenting he said, “We are always looking at ways to keep our running costs down and do our bit for the environment. Converting to the LPG/Diesel system has helped us to do both. We’ve worked closely with Calor and Mercury on the conversions and continually monitor the system. Conversion was simple and very successful and we plan to switch more of our fleet.”

The Mercury system is fitted with a dashboard interface system so that information can be downloaded and the fuel usage closely monitored.

Technical experts from Mercury Fuel Systems Ltd, will be on hand throughout the show at the Calor stand in the Centre Paddock for individual consultations and demonstrations to highlight the benefits of Calor LPG/Diesel dual fuel technology as a viable, low emission fuel solution for the transport and haulage sector. Tony Dent from Mercury Fuel Systems has commented that the experience of the customers who have made the conversion shows that introducing LPG as a dual fuel significantly reduces CO2 and other emissions. They have also found that fuel savings of around 10 – 15%, with a reduction of around 6% of the CO2 generated, are common.

There will also be an opportunity to see the technology in action with two converted DAF Trucks on display.
